US President Joe Biden described the approval of his plan to recover from the economic crisis caused by the Corona pandemic as a "historic victory for Americans", after Congress approved it on Wednesday.

With this step, Biden was able to achieve his first major success since his accession to the presidency 50 days ago.

Although Republicans united in opposing the $ 1.9 trillion plan, and a Democrat joined them, the Democratic majority in the House of Representatives succeeded in approving the plan with 220 votes to 211 against.

The measure allocates $ 400 billion in direct payments of $ 1,400 to most Americans, and $ 350 billion to help state and local governments, and includes expanding a tax exemption associated with child custody and increasing the amount of funding allocated to the distribution of vaccines.

When the result of the vote was released, Democrats held a celebration and applauded in the hall.

On Friday, Biden will release the mega-plan, which parallels Italy's gross domestic product.

"This law constitutes a historic and historic victory for the Americans," he said during a speech in Washington on the vaccination campaign yesterday, adding that he intends to sign it this week.

In what looks like a response to Republican criticism, Biden said, "Every element in the US rescue plan is a response to real needs."

For her part, Democratic Speaker of the House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi said, "We are at a critical juncture in the history of our country."

Criticism and priorities

On the other hand, Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell said, "It is one of the worst laws ever," and considered it "a classic example of an inflated Democratic program."

Republican Minority Leader in the House of Representatives Kevin McCarthy said the economic recovery plan is only a "priority list for the left" and is not responding to the pandemic.

He stressed that only 9% of the plan is "related to combating Covid-19."

The virus has killed 527,000 Americans and caused great damage to the economy, which last year recorded a contraction of 3.5%.

Experts expect the plan, which enjoys wide support in the polls, will boost growth.

Job restoration

"I think we will be able to reclaim all jobs from next year," Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen said in a statement.

According to the White House, the plan will create more than 7 million new jobs this year, reduce health care costs and save lives by supporting the vaccination campaign.

The White House confirms that the plan will halve the child poverty rate.

But economists warn of the risks of high inflation.

It is noteworthy that Biden, after the approval of the economic recovery plan, seeks to pass a bill related to US infrastructure, which he hopes will win greater agreement between the two parties.
