Munich (dpa / lby) - Cyberbullying, pornography, violent videos: children and young people are exposed to these dangers on their mobile phones every day - the Bavarian State Criminal Police Office has now developed a prevention campaign for schoolchildren, parents and teachers.

"Our new campaign raises awareness of the many dangers involved in using smartphones, especially when it comes to pornography, violent videos or inciting posts," said Bavaria's Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann (CSU) in Munich on Thursday.

Together with Digital Minister Judith Gerlach (CSU), Herrmann presented the new prevention campaign “Your smartphone - your decision”.

"Many are not even aware of how quickly you can commit a criminal offense or become a victim yourself, for example by blackmailing with previously sent nude pictures," said Herrmann.

Together with police experts, schoolchildren are to be informed about risks in class and learn how to deal responsibly with the digital world.

In addition, the campaign offers information for parents in the form of letters from parents and parents' evenings with experts.

Digital Minister Gerlach emphasized the importance of parents talking to their children about the problem and showing interest in what their children are doing with their smartphones and on the Internet.

According to the Bavarian Ministry of the Interior, the police recorded more than 4,000 crimes for spreading pornography last year.

This corresponds to an increase of around 57 percent compared to 2019 (2,600 criminal offenses).

The medium of crime is often the smartphone, and communication channels are not uncommon for student chats.

Pornographic or violence-glorifying videos could also "hide behind seemingly harmless thumbnails such as puppies playing," said Herrmann.
