Erlenbach am Main (dpa / lby) - Two young people found a hand grenade from the Second World War with a metal detector in a forest in Lower Franconia.

The two 14-year-olds were very lucky that the ammunition did not detonate, a police spokesman reported on Thursday.

The safety pin of the so-called British Mills hand grenade was reportedly loosened during the excavation in Erlenbach am Main.

It had to be blown up in a controlled manner on Wednesday after it was found.
