Munich (dpa / lby) - Jackpot and cheers: Lotto Bayern celebrates its 75th anniversary on Friday.

"75 years of state lottery administration in Bavaria means: a total of 20 billion euros in prizes, over 1,000 new millionaires and individual prizes of up to 90 million euros," said Bavaria's Minister of Finance and Home Affairs Albert Füracker (CSU) in the run-up to the anniversary.

The state institution has existed since March 12, 1946: Because of the lack of housing after the Second World War, the so-called reconstruction lottery was held for the people in Bavaria.

"For 50 pfennigs they could buy a ticket with a chance of winning a main prize of up to 1,000 marks or material prizes worth up to 5,000 marks," writes the State Lottery and Casino Administration, which is named on the occasion of its 75th anniversary was changed.

Previously the company was called the State Lottery Administration.

But since 2019 the nine Bavarian casinos have also been part of Lotto Bayern.

As one of the first state lottery companies in Germany, Lotto Bayern offered the well-known "Lotto 6aus49" from 1955.

The orphan girl Erika with the numbers 6, 18, 22, 29, 37, 44 won the lottery ticket in Munich.

There are currently around 3,500 acceptance points and around 15,000 employees in the Free State.

In July 2021, on the occasion of the anniversary, there will be a limited special edition of the Bayern lot in a historical design.
