Hanover (dpa / lni) - After the temporary payment stop for Corona state aid due to suspected fraud, Lower Saxony's Prime Minister Stephan Weil (SPD) insists on a quick resumption of aid.

"The Prime Minister has expressed the expectation that the total stop will be lifted shortly," said a government spokeswoman on Wednesday in Hanover.

The Federal Ministry of Economics announced the day before that payments on account had been stopped as a precautionary measure.

As a spokesman for the Lower Saxony Ministry of Economics said, the suspicion of fraud has so far not related to cases from Lower Saxony.

On a website about the corona aid, the Berlin Ministry of Economics and Finance announced that there was "in some cases the suspicion that government aid funds have been illegally obtained".

There are "a few suspected cases," emphasized a spokeswoman.

The public prosecutor's office has been involved and has already started investigations.
