US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin approved the Congressional Police request to extend the National Guard’s deployment around Congress until May 23.

A spokesman for the US Department of Defense (the Pentagon) said in a statement that the number of National Guard forces has been reduced to 2,300 soldiers, or about 50%.

He added that the Pentagon will work with Congressional police to reduce the number of National Guard personnel when conditions permit.

The National Guard had deployed to secure the Capitol after it was stormed by supporters of former President Donald Trump on January 6.

In the meantime, the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) released new footage on Tuesday of a man suspected of planting homemade bombs in Washington on January 5, on the eve of the congressional storm, in the hope of gathering information leading to his identification.

The video shows footage of the suspect captured by surveillance cameras in several neighborhoods of the American capital.

The man appeared to be wearing black pants, but his face was still covered by a hood and a muzzle he used to wear and sunglasses, and he was wearing gloves and carrying a backpack in his hand.

And the FBI previously published pictures of the suspect, which showed especially the sneakers he was wearing, and offered a reward of $ 100,000 to anyone who provided information leading to his arrest.

It is suspected that the man planted homemade bombs near bipartisan centers near the Congress headquarters.

The bombs did not explode, and their purpose may have been limited to keeping Congressional police away prior to the storming.

"We believe that someone somewhere has information that has yet to realize its importance," said FBI Deputy Director Stephen Dantuno.

He emphasized that these homemade bombs were "real devices that could explode and cause serious injuries and deaths."

Thousands of supporters of US President Donald Trump attacked the Congress headquarters on January 6, coinciding with the approval session for his Democratic opponent, Joe Biden, winning the presidential elections.

5 people were killed in the attack, which is increasingly suspicious of its spontaneity, and more than 300 people were arrested for their participation in the congressional storming.
