When vaccinating entire wards, especially with Astra Zeneca's vaccine, some of the staff have had side effects that made them have to stay home for one, two and sometimes three days, according to chief safety representative Ronny Öhman.

- They react quite violently with chills and fever.

It has been difficult to staff the departments the next day, he says.

Affects the economy

The side effects have forced the hospital in Lund to plan how the vaccinations are done.

Many of the staff also suffer from a financial setback with qualifying day deductions and sick pay deductions.

- So in addition to feeling bad, you are affected financially and we actually have a bit of a hard time digesting that, says Ronny Öhman.

Should take into account side effects

The vaccine has side effects, you may feel sick after receiving your dose.

Therefore, regions and private actors should take the side effects into account because they risk having consequences for staffing in healthcare, says Veronica Arthurson, head of unit at the Medical Products Agency.

- A proportion of the staff may need to take sick leave, it is completely according to the recommendations from the Public Health Agency, you should be home at the slightest symptom.

"Affects large share"

It is expected that up to 40 percent of the staff at the hospital in Lund suffer from side effects when they are vaccinated, according to Veronica Arthurson.

- For all vaccines approved in Sweden, there are a number of known very common side effects: Fever, headache, muscle aches and malaise.

They affect a relatively large proportion of those who get vaccinated, between 30 and 50 percent.
