Munich (dpa) - After the start of the nationwide first ski area in the Hessian town of Willingen in the season, which is delayed due to the corona, the Association of German Cable Cars is calling on politics to open up in other countries as well.

"We hope that other federal states and districts will follow these examples and call on politicians to approve the opening of all cable cars," said President Matthias Stauch on Wednesday.

The hygiene concepts of the cable cars have already proven their worth in the summer.

People longed for exercise and sport in a safe environment in nature, said Stauch, who is also a board member of the Bayerische Zugspitzbahn.

While the skiers can pull their turns in the Sauerland, the Bavarians have to do without fun on the slopes.

On the basis of the decided relaxation, Hessen had made outdoor and individual sports possible and given the go-ahead for skiing.

With North Rhine-Westphalia, another federal state will follow suit, it said.

The example from the Sauerland shows that measures and hygiene concepts are effective.

The Zugspitzbahn had already drawn conclusions from the lockdown and canceled the winter season for the Garmisch-Classic ski area.

The uncertainty is too great.

The organizational and financial effort to get the ski area ready to go is immensely high, Stauch had explained.

The ski season on the Zugspitze has not yet been completely written off.

If the decisions of politics and the weather conditions allow, skiing in Germany's highest ski area could be extended into May, it was recently said.
