Magdeburg (dpa / sa) - Because of the corona pandemic, Saxony-Anhalt is presenting itself in digital space at this year's ITB Now travel fair.

Economy Minister Armin Willingmann (SPD) will speak on Wednesday (10:00 a.m.) about the situation of the tourism industry in the state and give an outlook on the upcoming travel season, said a spokeswoman for the Saxony-Anhalt investment and marketing company.

According to the marketing company, the main topics will include corona-safe travel and the Dessau-Wörlitz Garden Realm.

ITB Now runs until Friday and is aimed exclusively at the specialist audience.

Nationwide, tourism is one of the economic sectors hit hardest by the restrictions in the pandemic.

The industry wants politicians to provide perspectives and guidelines for the current season.

Last year, according to the State Statistical Office, around 5.97 million overnight stays were registered in Saxony-Anhalt, 30.9 percent less than in the previous year.

There were 2.23 million guest arrivals, which was a decrease of 38 percent.
