Bestensee (dpa) - Volleyball Bundesliga club Berlin Volleys has made a big step towards the playoff semifinals.

In the first of a maximum of three games of the quarter-finals, the capital club won 3-0 (25:16, 25:21, 25:20) against Brandenburg rival Netzhoppers KW-Bestensee on Wednesday.

Benjamin Patch used the first match point to win.

The second game will take place next Tuesday in Berlin.

With another victory, the BR Volleys would end the series "Best of three" successfully early.

The Berliners put their opponent under considerable pressure from the start.

Coach Cedric Enard's team had far more punch than the opponent in attack.

She also looked more clarified during the longer rallies.

Two points in a row from Patch, including an ace, gave the guests a reassuring eight-point lead (18:10) in the first round and thus the basis for a sovereign set win.

The Netzhoppers had to do without their back injured player Byron Keturakis again.

But they surprisingly had a new addition in the diagonal attack with Filip John.

The 19-year-old was signed for the playoffs at short notice by VC Olympia Berlin.

John came on the field in the second set for Johannes Mönnich.

Not least thanks to its attack rate of 78 percent (8 points), the Brandenburgers kept the second sentence largely open.

Just as the Netzhoppers thought they were on the up, the BR Volleys struck back with all their routine and in the final section after a 5-1 point series, they defeated 17:12.
