Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - The number of south-west municipalities that fear for their millions in deposits at the closed Greensill Bank in Bremen is growing.

The Baden-Württemberg Community Day is in close contact with those affected, said a spokeswoman on Wednesday in Stuttgart.

"In the next few days we will hold talks with those affected, but also in specialist committees at the federal level to advise how we can best support the municipalities."

How many cities have such problems was initially unclear.

So Weissach (Böblingen district) trembles for his deposits.

Mayor Daniel Töpfer (CDU) announced that the community made investments totaling 16 million in the years 2010 and 2020.

The municipality, which has benefited in the past from high trade tax payments from Porsche due to the development center there, has not made any mistakes, according to the announcement.

All the decision-makers in the finance department acted correctly.

Quantities (Sigmaringen district) invested time deposits of three million euros at an interest rate of 0.6 percent last November.

“We can't get hold of the money at the moment,” said treasurer Holger Kuhn recently.

And Neckarsulm (Heilbronn district) parked an amount of five million euros at the bank.

The municipality recently announced how high a possible financial damage to the city would ultimately be cannot yet be estimated at this point in time.

Local authorities across Germany are affected by the Greensill case.

The background to this is that in times of zero and negative interest rates, Greensill Bank AG had offered overnight and fixed-term deposits at unusually high savings rates - and it was not only small savers who took advantage.

Affected municipalities point out that when deciding in favor of Bremer Bank, the rating - the rating - was taken into account.

Since October 1, 2017, municipalities, among others, have no longer benefited from the voluntary deposit protection offered by private banks, which in Germany is usually much higher than the statutory deposit protection of 100,000 euros.
