Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - More than 500 young people in the south-west found an apprenticeship position after the turn of the year and are now starting their careers retrospectively.

The alternative date for the start of training was introduced last year in response to the Corona crisis.

Another 1,000 or so applicants were placed between the official start of the training year in autumn and the end of the year, as the Ministry of Economic Affairs announced on Wednesday.

"Despite the difficult Corona situation on the training market, in which many companies are still closed or are struggling with significant sales shortfalls, the subsequent placement in training was successful," said Minister Nicole Hoffmeister-Kraut (CDU).

At the beginning of February it was said that the additional offer was hardly in demand due to the ongoing corona restrictions.

Both the chambers of industry and commerce and the chambers of crafts recorded a decline in the number of training contracts concluded last year.

In the IHK sectors, however, the minus was just under 13 percent (to 39 309), significantly greater than in the skilled trades, with 2.5 percent (to 18 666).
