Potsdam (dpa / bb) - The Brandenburg Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians wants to achieve a corona vaccination rate of 70 percent for initial vaccinations in the state by the end of summer.

Provided that there is enough vaccine, said Peter Noack, CEO of the Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians, on Wednesday at the meeting of the Committee on Social Affairs, Health and Consumer Protection.

192,000 vaccination doses are announced for the current month, the vaccination dates for these doses have already been booked.

He expects all of these doses to be given by Easter.

"We hope there are no delivery bottlenecks," he said.

According to his information, 1100 of 2100 doctor's practices contacted have responded to the request as to whether they would administer the corona vaccination.

Two thirds of them would take in strangers for this, he said.

"We want to bring the vaccine to the area," emphasized Noack.

With its vaccination quota for first vaccinations, Brandenburg is currently in last place in a comparison of the federal states.

Noack explained this with the initially poor rating of the vaccine from Astrazeneca.

9000 vaccination appointments had been canceled in this context, and no one came to the vaccination centers for the first few days.

In the meantime, the mobile vaccination teams are starting the next phase and setting up the elderly, residential or integration assistance, as Hubertus C. Diemer, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the German Red Cross in Brandenburg, announced.

There are almost 1,100 such facilities in the country with around 15,000 residents.

"The challenge is communication and vaccination according to the prioritization," said Diemer.
