Frankfurt / Main (dpa) - Despite his renewed contract with Bundesliga club Eintracht Frankfurt, Makoto Hasebe is not planning a career in Methuselah like his compatriot Kazuyoshi Miura, the 54-year-old oldest first division professional in the world.

"He's my role model, but it's not my goal to play that long," said the 37-year-old Japanese on Wednesday.

In many other things, however, he is based on Miura, who is still hunting for goals in the highest Japanese league for Yokohama FC.

"We meet for dinner every summer and then talk about nutrition and the fitness program," reported Hasebe.

The defensive player, who is jokingly called grandpa by some teammates, extended his contract with the Hessen until the summer of 2022 last Monday.

“I'm really happy and proud that I can continue to play in the Bundesliga at 37.

That’s madness, ”said Hasebe.

His big dream: "I want to play the Champions League again."

He had already been granted this once in the 2009/10 season with VfL Wolfsburg.

Ten game days before the end of the season, Eintracht is fourth.

The next season will probably be his last, said Hasebe, even if he doesn't want to commit.

After the end of his career, the 114-time national player of Japan, who ended his selection career after the 2018 World Cup, would like to train as a coach in Germany.
