Schwerin (dpa / mv) - Seven women and men in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania were awarded the Federal Cross of Merit - in a somewhat unusual way.

Because of the corona pandemic, the award was sent to the honorees, said Prime Minister Manuela Schwesig (SPD) on Wednesday.

Actually, the medals are presented in a festive setting, which is unfortunately not possible at the moment.

"When the situation allows it again, the award winners will be invited to an event in Schwerin," said Schwesig.

The award was given to the President of the National Anglers' Association, Karl-Heinz Brillowski, and the inventor of the “Aida” - “A-Rosa” cruise concepts, Horst Rahe.

The Stralsund cellist Friederike Fechner was honored for her renovation of an old town house and for her memory of the Jewish family who had a leather goods shop in this house from 1880 to 1938.

Gisela Schwarz from Hagenow is primarily recognized for her commitment to the renovation and redesign of the Old Synagogue in Hagenow.

According to the information, Gerhard Prill is active in nature conservation and landscape management on Rügen.

Fritz-Detlev Witte is honored for his long-term commitment in his hometown Parchim, Helmut Pratzel for his activities in Sarow (Mecklenburg Lake District).
