Buckingham Palace finally came out of its silence two days after the storm caused by the interview with Prince Harry and his wife Meghan.

It's short and more sober than emotional, but it's finally a response from the queen who is rarely used to pouring out.

It must be said that this time with 11 million Britons riveted to their posts Monday March 8 to watch

the explosive interview with the Sussexes

and while the media are only talking about that, the Windsors were increasingly under pressure to react to the accusations of racism and contempt against one of their own.

Hence this press release which is meant to be conciliatory and in compassion rather than in confrontation.

Examination of conscience ...

The whole royal family says it is “

saddened

 ” to learn how “

difficult

 ”

the last few years have been

for the couple and assures Harry, Meghan and their son Archie of their unwavering affection.

The palace says it takes

 accusations of racism

very seriously

" and promises to deal with them, but "

in

private

 ".

What is more, the palace wishes to stress that "

certain memories may turn out to be divergent

", a small remark which in reality reveals that the royal family categorically rejects the allegations of racism against them.

Attempts at reworking within a clearly torn family will therefore be hidden from view.

The Windsors will now do everything to calm the situation and disappear from the headlines, but given the widely shared reaction of the British on the treatment of Harry and Meghan, an examination of conscience seems inevitable if the monarchy is to ensure its sustainability.
