During this year's traditional eagle count, a total of 261 sea eagles were observed at 88 locations in 20 municipalities in central Sweden.

At Lake Mälaren, east of Hjulstabron and road 55, 72 sea eagles were seen and in the Stockholm area, 12 sea eagles were seen.

Several have been seen

The fact that so many birds were seen during the year does not mean that the population has increased, says Sten Ullerstad, project manager at the Rördrommen field station, which arranges the count.

- It's more about that we have produced them.

In addition to the wind, we had the help of dead game, especially deer that passed through the ice.

It is an attractive prey for the eagles.

Almost disappeared

By the end of the 20th century, the white-tailed eagle had almost disappeared after being hit hard by, among other things, environmental toxins.

At the end of the 1960s, only about ten pairs of sea eagles were counted in Sweden.

Today, the white-tailed eagle has recovered and the population is estimated to consist of around 800 pairs throughout the country.
