José María Aznar assures that he only has two cards: that of Real Madrid and that of PP.

And "both are in a clearly improvable moment."

Aware of the difficulties that Pablo Casado is going through, the former Prime Minister has advised him to "propose a very clear project and speak very clearly to the Spanish."

In a talk organized this Tuesday by the Francisco de Vitoria University and the Atlantic Institute, entitled 'Spain, Constitution and freedom 1996-2004', the former leader of the PP has lamented the lack of leadership that Spain is experiencing, without excluding his party from this criticism: "Now, in politics, one of the most expressive issues is the lack of leadership, which does not make decisions that are absolutely essential."

Also being in the opposition?

"Being in the opposition, that he must explain it to the people, because in the end the people will end up understanding it."

What is Aznar referring to?

What should be explained more Married?

"It should explain every day that there are going to be fewer and fewer people who work and more people who do not work, and there will come a time when that cannot be maintained."

Or that "lowering taxes grows more", he has opined.

"Explaining it is tough, but that's leadership, and it can be done."

If it seems like a "hard" endeavor, it is because he believes that the PSOE now raises the policy from "the extremes", since his partner, Podemos, "wants to liquidate the system."

For this reason, the former 'popular' leader advocates a "grand coalition" in major affairs of state.

Is this PP-PSOE pact feasible?

"Yes, as long as these people [the socialists] had not agreed with these gentlemen [from Podemos]."

The agreement between Pedro Sánchez and Pablo Casado "is the possible and desirable Spain," he emphasized.

"An agreement between the two major parties to limit the abuse of the rule of law is a fundamental element of order and common sense in Spain," Aznar emphasized.

"Can it be done? Always. It's a political option."

Of course, Aznar has admitted that the PP has to look for "new elements of definition because society has changed a lot."

In this sense, he has ensured that throughout the right, his main party must be a "magnet that attracts the voters of the other center-right parties."

Despite "all the communication difficulties and the inherent clumsiness of the center-right, there would be a majority of Spaniards who would understand" that Casado would overturn the economic message, Aznar insisted.

This "identifiable" project would act as a unifying force, in his opinion, for the entire Spanish "moderation".

Of course, the former president of the Government has recognized that the thesis that "the center-right has to be united" to win the elections is simple to maintain, but that "it is more complicated to implement."

For Aznar, "the battle of ideas is absolutely fundamental."

"The world of ideas is safer than that of algorithms. It is more positive for freedom. There is an excess of algorithms that leads to the greatest state of manipulation and weakness of the human being in its history," he argued, before to recommend the liberal ideology as "the one that can best guarantee today our democracies, which are threatened."
