  Pan Kaixiong entered the publishing industry in the late 1990s. Coincidentally, it was also when Chinese online literature broke ground.

"Literature has never left my career." When the first Sina Chinese Original Literature Competition was held in 2004, he was one of the judges, and because of this, he was able to closely observe the growth process of online literature from groundbreaking to growth.

  "Internet literature is already a form that cannot be ignored in the field of Chinese literature. Its flow volume is beyond the reach of traditional literature. Even if water is squeezed out, it is still enough to show its vitality and influence." Pan Kaixiong said in an exclusive interview with China News Agency. .

According to incomplete statistics, in 2019, there were nearly 20 million Chinese online literature authors, with a total of more than 25 million online literature works, and the industry market size reached 20.17 billion yuan (RMB, the same below), covering more than 450 million users.

  Today, what is the "growing" of online literature?

Pan Kaixiong wrote his observations into the proposal: writing about social changes and the resonance of the times has resonated with readers. It is necessary to inherit history and culture and promote online literature to rejuvenate, so as to tell Chinese stories well and help Chinese culture go out.

  In fact, the volume of traffic has never really impressed Pan Kaixiong. Until now, what really attracted him was the “live, current, and instant “smell of fireworks” on the web.” Those steaming content made him love it. , And the lack of technology makes him sometimes hate iron but not steel.

"This is where the value and uniqueness of online literature lies. It is definitely a big bonanza."

  "I found that many online writers now have full-time jobs, many of them are white-collar workers, overseas returnees and other well-educated people. When I browsed on the big platforms such as the starting point of reading articles, I also found that the quality of the current works has improved a lot."

  Over the years, Pan Kaixiong has watched the web texts break through the ground, grow branches, bloom and loose leaves, and go out to sea by clouds.

As of 2019, China has exported more than 10,000 online works overseas, covering more than 40 countries and regions along the “Belt and Road”.

The draft of the "14th Five-Year Plan" and the 2035 long-term goal outline that are being submitted for review are proposed to open up overseas cultural markets and encourage outstanding traditional cultural products and digital cultural products such as film and television dramas and games to "go global."

  In fact, online writers have aspirations and ambitions for "going abroad."

As early as a few years ago, Zhang Wei, a member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and a well-known online writer (pen name: Tang Family Sanshao), said at the two sessions that his dream was to make Chinese online literature an IP with global influence.

He confidently put forward that "Chinese online literature can now be called the "Four Cultural Phenomenon of the World" together with Hollywood, Japanese animation, and Korean TV dramas in the United States", and released "We can be recognized by China's 400 million Chinese readers. It can be recognized by more than 4 billion people all over the world".

  Pan Kaixiong has "mixed joys and worries."

The good news is that in popular literature, the web articles that "enclose a piece of land" are more for readers to relax. He is happy to see more overseas readers choose Chinese web articles; the worry is that "too much, too heavy" Titles may make online literature carry a heavy burden when going out."
