The alleged mastermind behind the "Ibiza video" was extradited from Germany to Austria on Tuesday.

Now an application for pre-trial detention will be made for the man, said a spokeswoman for the Vienna public prosecutor of the German press agency.

The daily newspaper “Austria” had previously reported on the transfer.

The Austrian judiciary is investigating him for extortion and drug trafficking.

The man, now 40 years old, had been wanted with a European arrest warrant.

He was arrested in Berlin in December 2020.

On Monday, the Federal Constitutional Court in Karlsruhe rejected an urgent application by the man against his extradition.

The Ibiza video published in May 2019 led to the overthrow of the government of the conservative ÖVP and right-wing FPÖ.

On the recordings that were made secretly on the Spanish island, the then FPÖ boss Heinz-Christian Strache appeared susceptible to corruption.

The suspect told "Spiegel" and the "Süddeutsche Zeitung" in January that the video was an attempt to prove Strache's corruption and infidelity.

He did not receive any money for the video itself.
