Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) - Women are still underrepresented in the boardrooms of ministries and the highest authorities in North Rhine-Westphalia.

It is true that the proportion of women at all management levels of the state service has risen in recent years.

But there are only about a quarter women on the top two levels of management.

This emerges from the first equality atlas for North Rhine-Westphalia, which the responsible minister Ina Scharrenbach (CDU) presented on Monday.

The data from the survey only lasted up to 2017, so that the development under the CDU / FDP state government has not yet been recorded.

By 2025, the management positions in the state administration should be filled equally with women and men, said Scharrenbach.

According to Scharrenbach, it is surprising that three-quarters of the top salaries in judges are women.

In 2017, almost two out of three heads across all school types were female (64 percent).

However, according to Scharrenbach, women almost exclusively lead primary schools, while men dominated the management positions in secondary schools.

In the police force in North Rhine-Westphalia, only 20 percent of managers are women.

In training, women are still less likely to find their way into technical professions than men, said the minister.

"IT, for example, is a super exciting job."

Women would also have to take up IT professions.

"Digitization must not be a step backwards in realizing equality."

However, future jobs are apparently more likely to be accepted by men than by women.

More young women should also be won in the skilled trades - especially in the case of company successions.

There must be a “new normal” in management positions and supervisory boards, said Scharrenbach.

Half of the posts should be occupied by women in the future.

This also applies to the next NRW state government.

There are currently eight ministers in the black and yellow state government.
