Osnabrück (dpa / lni) - A 31-year-old suspected ATM sprinkler has to answer to court in Osnabrück from today.

In the trial at the Osnabrück Regional Court, the man is accused of being part of a larger gang in five cases of blowing up ATMs across Germany.

For this purpose, the members of the gang are said to have broken open the outer paneling of ATMs, injected a gas mixture inside and ignited it from a safe distance.

The perpetrators are said to have stolen cash in two cases - more than 200,000 euros in Nordhorn last September alone.

The five acts that the man is accused of should have occurred between 2018 and 2020 in Ingolstadt, Krummhörn, Neustadt in Holstein, Lüneburg and Nordhorn.

In four out of five cases, the perpetrators are said to have succeeded in blowing up the ATM.

The 31-year-old is said to have fled with a scooter after the crime in Nordhorn, where he is said to have suffered an accident.

He was arrested on the same day.

If convicted, the man faces a total sentence of up to 15 years.
