Saarbrücken (dpa / lrs) - Due to the corona pandemic, students at Saarland universities receive one semester longer than planned in accordance with the Federal Training Assistance Act (Bafög).

The maximum duration of the funding, which is limited to the general standard period of study, will be extended by one semester for all students enrolled in the winter semester 2020/2021.

A corresponding law was passed unanimously in the Saarland state parliament on Monday.

The "individual standard period of study" is intended to respond to the numerous impairments for students due to the pandemic.

The winter semester 2020/2021 is not counted as a regular semester for funding purposes.

A similar regulation is also provided for scientist positions in a civil servant relationship on a temporary basis.

These employment relationships should be able to be "extended due to the pandemic".
