Hamburg (dpa / lno) - The Corona crisis also hit Lufthansa Technik AG hard.

After the record year 2019 with an operating profit of 472 million euros, the provider of aircraft technology services smeared off 2020 and now posted a minus of 508 million euros before interest and taxes, as the company announced on Monday in Hamburg.

Sales collapsed by 43 percent to around 3.75 billion euros.

CEO Johannes Bussmann spoke of the most difficult year in the company's history.

After air traffic came to a temporary standstill worldwide from the second quarter of 2020 due to the corona pandemic, the demand for maintenance of aircraft, engines and components also collapsed.

The capacity utilization of the workshops has in some cases decreased by more than half - which has a direct impact on the employees.

According to Lufthansa Technik, the number of employees in the Corona year was reduced by more than 3,000 or 12.5 percent compared to 2019, including around 1,900 temporary workers worldwide.

The permanent workforce has been reduced by around five percent and is now 22,745 women and men.

Lufthansa Technik, with its 36 operations and more than 800 customers, is the world market leader in the manufacturer-independent maintenance, repair and overhaul of civil, commercially operated aircraft.

In the past year, more than 4,500 machines were looked after.

For this and the following years, more than 500 new contracts with a volume of around 2.3 billion euros were concluded.
