Ivory Coast: President Ouattara appoints a new interim Prime Minister

Ivorian President Alassane Ouattara has appointed a new interim Prime Minister, Patrick Achi, and has also appointed his younger brother, Téné Birahima Ouattara as Minister of Defense, still on an interim basis.

In Côte d'Ivoire, President Alassane Ouattara appointed a new interim Prime Minister on Monday, March 8.

This is Patrick Achi, secretary general of the Ivorian presidency.

He temporarily replaces Prime Minister Hamed Bakayoko, absent from the country since February 18 for medical reasons and whose state of health has worsened sharply in recent days, according to the pan-African media Jeune Afrique.

 ," President Alassane Ouattara declared last Saturday about Hamed Bakayoko, without specifying what he is suffering from.

On an official visit to Paris last week, the Ivorian head of state went to his Prime Minister's bedside.

He was evacuated to France last month and had been treated at the American Hospital in Paris since last week.

According to the pan-African media,

his state of health has deteriorated sharply in recent days and he was transferred to an establishment in Berlin, Germany on Saturday.

In recent months, the Prime Minister had contracted Covid-19 twice and suffered from a major attack of malaria.

In January, he also performed a series of medical tests at the American Hospital in Paris without any diagnosis being communicated.

This Monday morning, President Ouattara therefore signed 2 decrees appointing Patrick Achi Prime Minister, interim head of government.

The head of state also appointed his younger brother, Téné Birahima Ouattara - nicknamed "

 " - to the sensitive post of Minister of Defense, still on an interim basis.
