Wiesbaden (dpa / lhe) - The black-green state government wants to ensure better care in Hessen with country doctors by means of university places.

A certain number of study places is also to be reserved for prospective doctors who undertake to work in the public health service at a later date.

This was announced by the CDU and Greens parliamentary groups on Monday in Wiesbaden.

A concept for a draft law went to the state government.

According to the ideas of the government coalition, 65 of the approximately 1000 medical students in Hessen should commit themselves to work for 10 years as family doctors or paediatricians in underserved areas in the state.

13 other students should commit themselves to the public health service for the same period.

The quota should be able to apply from 2022.

Seven federal states have now introduced a country doctor quota, said the health policy spokesman for the CDU parliamentary group, Ralf-Norbert Bartelt.

There are significantly more applicants than places.

In Hesse, it is planned to select interested parties in a two-stage process.

The average grades should not be decisive, but rather the subject-specific suitability and professional experience in a health profession or in voluntary work, said the Green health expert Marcus Bocklet.
