The CSU chairman Markus Söder has threatened the CSU Bundestag member Georg Nüßlein, who is suspected of corruption in connection with a deal with masks, by the party leadership.

Nüßlein also violated the party’s internal rules with his behavior, Söder said on Monday in the ZDF “Morgenmagazin”.

The CSU Presidium will still be discussing on Monday "what partial consequences that must have".

After his withdrawal from the Union faction in the Bundestag, Söder called on Nüßlein to surrender his Bundestag mandate.

This would be “better and more consistent”, otherwise the impression would arise that Nüßlein might want to stay in the Bundestag for other reasons.

In addition, the CSU boss demanded von Nüßlein to donate the money earned with the mask business.

Overall, "great damage" was caused by the allegations.

The Munich Public Prosecutor's Office is investigating Nüßlein because of the initial suspicion of corruption.

He is said to have collected six-figure commissions for brokering business with corona protective masks.

Nüßlein denies the allegations, but nevertheless resigned as deputy Union parliamentary group leader, withdrew from the parliamentary group and announced that he would no longer run in the federal election in September.

But he wants to keep his mandate until then.
