Niederaula (dpa / lhe) - In a motorway accident in East Hesse, five members of a family were seriously injured on Monday.

The 41-year-old family man from Paderborn overtook a truck on Autobahn 7 in the direction of Kassel and then wanted to change to the right lane, according to the police.

The car hit the rear of a semitrailer for an unexplained cause.

The family car skidded, spun, and came to a stop on the hard shoulder.

The accident occurred in the afternoon between the Niederaula exit and the Hattenbacher Dreieck.

The injured - in addition to the driver, his 32-year-old wife and three children aged 4, 6 and 13 - were taken to local hospitals.

Several rescue vehicles and two helicopters were in use.

The motorway was completely closed for about two hours for the rescue and clearance work.

The traffic jammed up to a length of five kilometers.

Property damage of 14,000 euros occurred to the vehicles.
