Halle (dpa / sa) - In Saxony-Anhalt, 134 applications to open insolvency proceedings were submitted to the local courts in January.

That was a good half (54 percent) fewer applications than in the same period of the previous year, as the State Statistical Office announced on Monday with reference to preliminary figures.

Accordingly, 16 applications related to the bankruptcy of companies.

That was 60 percent less a year ago.

For example, companies in the catering and construction industries were affected.

The majority of the insolvency applications (118) in January concerned consumers and the self-employed.

In total, the claims of creditors amounted to 29.3 million euros.

Of these, 23.5 million related to insolvency applications by companies, and 5.7 million euros related to other debtors.

Economic experts see the reasons for the relatively low number of companies filing for insolvency in the state aid measures in the Corona crisis and in the still partially applicable suspension of the obligation to file for insolvency.
