In order to guarantee friendly relations between our two countries, we are calling for the return of eight Burmese police officers who have entered Indian territory

.

It was through this official letter sent to the Indian authorities that Burma acknowledged the first flight of its officers.

These 8 policemen are between 22 and 25 years old and left with their families, a group of about 48 people.

They arrived in the border state of Mizoram, in the far northeast of India.

The Indian authorities have not yet indicated whether they will return them, and so far have contented themselves with strengthening control of this land border.

India's response should, however, be watched with attention by the international community, as it would mark its policy vis-à-vis the junta: New Delhi has so far indicated that it is "

very concerned

" about the seizure of power by the junta, and demanded respect for the “

democratic process

 ”.

But did not directly condemn this coup, because India is too afraid that a confrontation with the Burmese power will serve its regional rival, China.
