After further corona infections on the newly built Meyer cruise ship "Odyssey of the Seas", around 1000 workers and crew members are stuck on the luxury liner in Bremerhaven.

Corona virus infections were found in five other people on board, as a spokesman for the Bremen Senator for Health said on Monday.

The infected would now be brought off board and isolated in a hotel.

The Meyer shipyard in Papenburg, where the ship was built, had already confirmed two corona infections last week.

They became known on Wednesday and confirmed with PCR tests on Thursday.

According to the health authorities, the now infected people were classified as contact persons for the first two cases and were immediately isolated in individual cubicles.

"We do not expect further cases," said the spokesman.

To be on the safe side, the ship has not yet been released.

Around 1,000 people, including workers and crew members, are now stuck on the luxury liner.

The “Odyssey of the Seas” was transferred over the Ems towards the North Sea about a week ago.

The cruise ship is now in Bremerhaven for the final equipment.

The almost 348 meter long ocean liner is expected to be delivered to the shipping company in 2021.

The ship was commissioned by Royal Caribbean International.

The ship has 18 decks and more than 2000 passenger cabins.

According to the Meyer shipyard, all workers on board are tested for the corona virus on a daily basis.

There were corona cases on a TUI cruise ship off the Canary Islands last week: three people, including two guests and a crew member, tested positive for the corona virus.

In addition to them, 24 holidaymakers who sat with the infected in a tour bus on Fuerteventura had to be in quarantine.
