Cham (dpa / lby) - The eastern Bavarian border region is calling for its own corona strategy.

"Especially with a view to the extraordinary situation in the Czech Republic and the dynamics of mutations, the development in the border regions is of crucial importance for combating the virus in all of Bavaria and Germany," emphasized six MPs on Monday in a joint position paper.

The counties need more vaccinations, tests and prospects for families and trade.

The European Union should specifically provide vaccine for the Bavarian-Czech border region, it says in the paper.

With more corona tests, social and economic life could also be made possible despite the high number of infections.

"Our goal must be that every child comes back to primary school before the Easter break and that social contacts are made possible," declared the MPs.

In a next step, retail should be allowed to reopen with fixed customer appointments and a test concept.

Prime Minister Markus Söder announced on Monday that he wanted to redistribute more vaccine in Corona hotspots, for example on the border with the Czech Republic.

Commuters could also be eligible for vaccinations.

The state government had already promised 50,000 additional doses of vaccine for the border region.

The Czech Republic currently has the highest rate of new infections in the EU, a good ten times as high as in Germany.
