First, support for the British monarchy is solid.

As many as two-thirds of Britons want to keep the monarchy, while only 21 percent want a republic instead.

It shows an opinion poll that YouGov presented in December.

The support is highest among the 65-plus, where as many as 84 percent want to keep the monarchy.

In the age group 18-24 years, the support is the lowest.

There, only 42 percent want to keep the monarchy, while 34 percent prefer a republic.

Unsurprisingly, the Republican campaign group working to abolish the monarchy in Britain has called Oprah's interview the worst crisis for the British royal family since 1936 when Edward VIII abdicated in order to marry the American Wallis Simpson.

"Either for the sake of Britain or for the sake of the younger royals, this rotten institution must be scrapped," the group wrote on Twitter.

More sympathize with the royal family

At the same time, a recent opinion poll shows that when the British are asked who they sympathize with the most when it comes to Prince Harry and Meghan's Megxit, the Duke couple Sussex or Buckingham Palace, then Queen Elizabeth and the royal family end up at the top.

38 percent sympathize most with the royal family and only 18 percent with Harry and Meghan.

But even here there are big differences when it comes to different age groups.

60 percent of the 65-plus people favor the queen and the royal family, but only 8 percent Harry and Meghan.

Those between 18-24 years think the exact opposite.

40 percent sympathize most with the duke couple Sussex but only 16 percent with Queen Elizabeth.

The support for the Queen the interesting

The past week has been turbulent for Prince Harry and Meghan.

Among other things, the British newspaper The Times has revealed that Meghan is accused of having bullied several employees at Kensington Palace.

The tabloids have not shouted the words when they went to rock hard attack, especially against Meghan.

Despite this, Harry and Meghan's popularity has increased prior to the interview with Oprah.

New figures from YouGov show that more than half, 53 percent, of those surveyed have a positive opinion of Prince Harry against 47 percent in the middle of last month.

Meghan has also become slightly more popular compared to February, but quite a lot more popular compared to October last year.

It is no wild guess to believe that support for the Duke and Duchess Sussex will increase even more now that the interview has been broadcast.

But it will be really interesting to see if and how the support for Queen Elizabeth and the royal family is affected.
