Veteran American tennis star Serena Williams said she was aware of the "pain and cruelty" suffered by Megan, wife of British Prince Harry, after Megan accused the British royal family of racism.

Megan said - in an interview with famous TV anchor Oprah Winfrey aired on CBS late Sunday, that the royal family was concerned about the tan of their son's complexion before he was born.

Megan - born to a brown mother and white father, aged 39 - added that she had considered suicide after marrying the prince in 2018.

After the interview aired, Serena, a black athlete who won 23 Grand Slam titles, said Megan had taught her "what it means to be a true gentleman."

Serena criticized some media outlets that insulted people of color and belittled them, and stressed the need to address such practices.

She added that exposure to injustice and suffering continuously leads to terrible effects on mental health and very dangerous consequences.

The couple also revealed that Megan, who is pregnant with their second child, will have two daughters next summer.

"I want Megan's daughter, daughter and daughter to live in a respectful society," said Serena.
