Doha / Hamburg (dpa / lno) - Olympic champion Laura Ludwig from Hamburg and her partner Margareta Kozuch return this week to the beach volleyball world tour, which was paused for a year due to the corona pandemic.

Eight German teams are registered for the restart of the most highly endowed international competition tour in Qatar.

For the first time after the compulsory break, qualification points for the Olympic Games in Tokyo, which have been postponed to this summer, will be awarded again.

"The aim is to be there with two women's and two men's teams in Japan and play for a medal there," said Niclas Hildebrand, sports director of the German Volleyball Association (DVV).

According to the current ranking, Ludwig / Kozuch, the vice world champions Julius Thole / Clemens Wickler (Hamburg) and Karla Borger / Julia Sude (Stuttgart) are in Tokyo.

Qualification will be completed on June 15th.

The world association FIVB has not yet announced how many tournaments there will be until then.

In Qatar, Robin Sowa / Lukas Pfretzschner from Hamburg were the first to play in the elimination on Monday.

The perspective team was eliminated with 0: 2 (19:21, 13:21) against the Brazilians Saymon / Fabio.
