When the Prime Minister's Conference came to an end, Angela Merkel appeared in the capital's press on Wednesday evening.

“What we went through together was tough,” said the Chancellor.

“But today you can also say that it has had an effect.” With this, Merkel repeated the mantra that had been presented for months: that the (temporary) decline in the number of infections was due to the restrictive measures imposed by the federal and state governments.

Fewer sick and dead people thanks to fewer contacts, closed schools, shops and restaurants.

The strict lockdown as a course with no alternative.

Just: is this narrative correct?

The view to the north, to Scandinavia, raises doubts.
