Numerous facts of illegal wiretapping of the telephone conversations of Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic are viewed as an attempt at a coup d'état.

This statement was made by the Prime Minister of the Republic Ana Brnabic, commenting on the information revealed during the investigation.

Speaking on TV Pink, she stressed that the wiretapping of the conversations of the head of state and his family continued for several months or even years.

“He and his family were overheard by people who were supposed to guard him or protect him from wiretapping by foreign services.

This went on for many months, maybe even years ... This should be investigated to the end, to the last screw in this mechanism, to the last motive, ”Brnabic stressed.

According to her, high-ranking officials of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, current members of the ruling Serbian Progressive Party (SPP) and former members of the government may be involved in the case.

At the same time, Brnabic stated that there was nothing incriminating Vucic in the telephone conversations to which the attackers gained access.

The illegal wiretapping of the head of state became known in early January 2021, when the Minister of Internal Affairs of Serbia Aleksandr Vulin announced the ongoing investigation into this fact.

Later, the head of the Serbian criminal police Bogdan Pusic said that one of the organized criminal groups was preparing an attempt on the president's life, but most of it was liquidated as a result of a special operation in early February.

On Saturday, March 6, a meeting of the Serbian National Security Council was held, at which, in particular, the fight against organized crime was discussed.

After him, the president, the prime minister and the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs held a joint press conference, at which Vučić said that the republic’s security forces had recently managed to liquidate several groups associated with numerous murders, and work in this direction would continue.

In turn, the Minister of Internal Affairs announced the receipt of "irrefutable evidence" that the attackers illegally tapped more than 1.5 thousand telephone conversations of Vucic and his family members, and high-ranking officials of the Ministry of Internal Affairs were involved in this.

“1,572 telephone conversations were illegally tapped.

Their recording was conducted without any legal basis and was not conditioned by any considerations of law enforcement, "- quotes Vulina N1.

“Some employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs passed a polygraph test, and, frankly, they all failed, and on the most important of the questions we asked,” he stressed.

The head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs added that the results of the investigation were transferred to the prosecutor's office, which will formulate the qualification of the crime and transfer the case to the judicial authorities.

Commenting on the recent events, the mayor of Novi Sad and the vice-president of the Serbian Progressive Party, Milos Vucevic, said that opponents of Vucic inside the SPP, including "ministers, directors and other party officials", could be involved in the wiretapping.

According to Oleg Bondarenko, director of the Progressive Policy Foundation, a "rather muddy story" is unfolding in Serbia and the investigation will have to figure out who and at what level was able to ensure the wiretapping of the country's president's telephones.

“A number of high-ranking officials of the security forces of Serbia were involved in this criminal plan, and now we need to understand in whose interests they were working it out, who could be behind it.

These may be forces within the country, which Vucic interfered with, ”the political scientist explained.

- As we know, he fought quite hard against the mafia, he to a certain extent carried out the de-oligarchization of Serbia.

After he became president, they went to jail for a while.

Of course, he has enough enemies among this former elite, especially since these people believe that their removal from power is unfair and situational. "

“If other countries are behind this wiretapping, then this is a completely different conversation.

It cannot be ruled out that some Western structures, for example, the British or American special services, could be involved in this.

The British traditionally work hard in the Balkans, ”added the interlocutor of RT.
