Braunschweig (dpa / lsw) - SV Sandhausen suffered a serious setback in the fight against relegation from the 2nd Bundesliga.

Due to a free-kick from Felix Kroos in the first minute of stoppage time, SVS lost 1-0 (0-0) to direct rivals Eintracht Braunschweig on Sunday.

To make matters worse, defender Alexander Schirow saw the red card immediately before the final whistle for kicking (90 + 5).

Instead of leaving the relegation ranks, at least for the time being, the team of interim coaches Gerhard Kleppinger and Stefan Kulovits slipped to the penultimate place.

In a very competitive game, Sandhausen had the better playing structure and the better chances in the first half.

Alexander Esswein and Kevin Behrens hit the post in the 31st and 44th minutes.

However, the Braunschweiger improved and were the better team in the second half.

In the 47th minute, Sandhausen defender Nils Röseler saved from Nick Proschwitz who was ready to shoot.

Shortly afterwards goalkeeper Stefanos Kapino parried a shot from Fabio Kaufmann (51.).

In the end, the climber passed the guests and VfL Osnabrück in the table.
