Oberstdorf (dpa) - Six medals in 23 decisions.

The German Ski Association (DSV) was unable to build on the Gold Festival in Lahti 2017 or Seefeld 2019 at the Nordic World Ski Championships in Oberstdorf.

Ski jumper Karl Geiger and combiner Eric Frenzel are the guarantors for gold, silver and bronze.

The cross-country skiers, on the other hand, are very far away.

As in previous years, German ski jumpers have proven to be absolute medal guarantors.

Led by local hero Karl Geiger, who won silver and bronze in the singles in his home country, he also achieved excellent performances in the mixed team (gold) and in the men's team competition (gold).

The team of national coach Stefan Horngacher has won precious metal in every competition.

The dethroned individual world champion Markus Eisenbichler was able to console himself with two titles in the team.

SKI JUMPING WOMEN - NOTE 3-4

The great shine of the past few years is over.

While Carina Vogt and Katharina Althaus always guaranteed individual medals at the last five major events, the results in the all-women competitions were bad this time.

In the individual it didn’t go beyond tenth place, and the German quartet had no chance to defend their title in the team.

A sporting fiasco prevented Althaus and Anna Rupprecht, who made a significant contribution to the world championship title in mixed with strong performances.

At the end of the season, long-time national coach Andreas Bauer says goodbye.

COMBINATION MEN - NOTE 3

The days of the German dominators are over.

While Johannes Rydzek won four gold medals four years ago in Lahti, this time there was no German World Cup title at all.

Eric Frenzel took fourth place in both individual competitions, achieving bronze in the team sprint (with Fabian Rießle) and silver in the team competition (with Rießle, Vinzenz Geiger and Terence Weber).

The Norwegian Jarl Magnus Riiber - decorated with twice gold and twice silver - lived up to his favorite position.

The local heroes Vinzenz Geiger and Johannes Rydzek experienced an overall disappointing World Cup.

COMBINATION WOMEN - NOTE 4-5

This premiere, especially at home, would have been very different for the DSV.

It was not the German team around talent Jenny Nowak who shaped the eagerly awaited wagon premiere of the women, but Norway's women, who achieved a triple success.

Places 11, 17, 18 and 19 were definitely not enough for the ambitious German association, especially since the young team of national coach Klaus Edelmann revealed major weaknesses in both categories (ski jumping and cross-country skiing).

CROSS-COUNTRY MEN - NOTE 5

Since taking office in spring 2018, Germany's team boss Peter Schlickenrieder has repeatedly pointed out how important the home World Cup in Oberstdorf is.

No medals or huge achievements were to be expected in the title fights, but the men's team still disappointed across the board.

A weak result in the sprint started, a lost ski in the team sprint became a symbol.

Most of the time, the German athletes stomped into the interview zone, bent in an attempt to explain the mixed results.

The team was also far away in the relay.

CROSS-COUNTRY WOMEN - NOTE 4-5

After classical music specialist Katharina Hennig had already achieved a podium place this winter, a sensation was dreamed of before the World Cup - right up to the skiathlon.

There Hennig struggled with her emotions after a very poor race and 29th place.

Laura Gimmler with a top 10 result in the sprint and the brave relay in fifth gave courage, but the German cross-country team wanted to be much further for the World Cup.

At the end of the 30-kilometer race, Gimmler took tenth place again, Hennig broke in and did not get past 18th place.
