Brazil: Jair Bolsonaro cornered for his management of the coronavirus pandemic

The director general of the WHO evoked last week a situation "very very worrying" in Brazil because of the pandemic with a risk of contagion in all Latin America.

This weekend, a group of Brazilian clerics and artists launched a petition claiming that Brazil has become a threat to the whole world.

 Brazil is crying for help,

 ” says the manifesto launched by personalities like the theologian Leonardo Boff, artists like singer Chico Buarque and Lula's former foreign minister Celso Amorim.

An extremely harsh text directed against President Jair Bolsonaro, while the number of victims is on the rise again, a year after the start of the pandemic. 

The text makes him responsible for " 

the collapse of the health system 

", accuses him of "

 neglect of vaccination and of the most basic preventive measures

 ", and "

 of encouraging gatherings, in defiance of all measures of quarantine 

”. 

So many elements which “

endanger

”, continues the text, “

neighboring countries and all of humanity

”. 

The manifesto, which uses the term "

genocidal

"

three times

, collected 15,000 signatures this weekend, and urgently calls on the International Criminal Tribunal (ICT) to condemn the policies of the Bolsonaro government.
