Saarbrücken (dpa / lrs) - On the occasion of International Women's Day, the social association VdK Saarland called for better opportunities for women in the labor market and more commitment in the fight against poverty in old age.

«Women must be given the same participation as men.

In the corona pandemic, women reduced their working hours more to compensate for the failure of state care systems.

Women are the financial losers of the Corona crisis, ”says the VdK's deputy state chairman Dagmar Heib on Sunday.

In addition, the association warned before International Women's Day on Monday (March 8) that women have been chronically overburdened for a year through childcare, homeschooling, household chores or care.

“Women do most of the unpaid care work.

This unequal distribution of roles already existed before the pandemic, ”says Heib.

According to the VdK, men in Saarland receive parental allowance less often: "Only 18 percent of all men took parental allowance in 2019, the national average it was 24 percent," it said.
