Erfurt (AP) - In the Thuringia derby of the volleyball Bundesliga, VfB Suhl Lotto Thuringia with a lot of effort still won 3: 2 (23:25, 25:27, 25:23, 14:25, 15 : 8) won.

At first it looked in the Erfurt Riethsporthalle as if the course of the game would be based on the current standings, as VfB Suhl quickly took the lead 5-2 in sixth place.

But the lead should already be used up with the first technical break, when it was 8: 7 for the bottom of the table Erfurt.

And even afterwards, the favored Suhl women did not manage to build on their usual performance.

With a muddled game structure and many simple mistakes, they invited the Erfurters, who were extremely attentive in their network actions and strongly defended them, to win points and finally to win the set.

Set number two was almost a reflection of the first and also in the third round the outsider was on top after Suhl took a 16:12 lead again.

Only when the middle blocker Laura de Zwart achieved several good block actions towards the end, this passage went to the guests.

In the confidently won fourth set, the guests finally showed why they had qualified early for the playoffs of the eight best teams.

In the all-important tie-break, the favorite from Suhl was initially 0: 2 back, but fought back and led shortly afterwards with 6: 2.

The Erfurt women didn't want to succeed afterwards, the Suhl women now made one point after the other and finally won this game.

"We didn't get into the game at all, made a lot of mistakes and rightly lagged behind," said VfB captain Claudia Steger.

"But I'm proud of my team that they came back so strong again."

Erfurt's captain Michelle Petter said: "If you give Suhl your little finger this season, they'll take the whole hand."
