Highly controversial vote this Sunday in Switzerland.

The people must say whether or not the full veil is prohibited in the public sphere, as France, Belgium or Austria have already done in Europe.

The initiative comes from the Swiss nationalist right, known for its shock campaigns against foreigners.

Except that this time, the text seduces well beyond its classic electoral base.

A veiled woman with a threatening look on which we can read the inscription "

stop extremism

".

The initiative of the nationalist right does not officially target the burqa and the niqab.

But his campaign posters say the opposite.

The UDC party denies targeting a particular religion.

And the deputy Jean-Luc Addor takes as proof the few supports, minority, but very visible, coming from feminists classified on the left.

The time has come to show consistency, in accordance with the principles of respect and freedom for women

," he said.

There is a whole series of prominent left-wing figures who have expressed their support.

I am quite hopeful that we will succeed in giving this signal, not to Islam but to an extreme form of Islam.

We want to set certain limits and these limits, it is us who set them at home.

 "

The SVP's initiative divides in fact in the parties.

Officially, all have taken a stand against the text, described as stigmatizing Muslims in addition to being unnecessary.

The full veil would only concern about forty people in Switzerland.

But locals in the right-wing liberal party said they would vote for it.

This explains, in part, that the popular initiative is given a winner in the polls.

It would be a first for a text from the nationalist right, since 2014 and the vote of the Swiss against mass immigration.
