The wolf tracking is part of the county administrative board's large predator inventory of wolves, lynx and golden eagles in Skåne.

Since the snow has melted away and it is no longer possible to track game in the snow, the county administrative board uses game cameras that are set up in the terrain.

The wolf couple on Linderödsåsen were caught on film on the evening of February 25 in the middle of the area.

Through DNA analysis of the wolves' droppings, it has been established that the bitch originally comes from Östergötland and the male from Västmanland.

- It is precisely these two wolves that are important to follow if they will have puppies or not, says the county administrative board's nature conservation officer David Börjesson to SVT Nyheter Skåne.

The couple will probably stay in Skåne

Do you think they will stay on Linderödsåsen?

- When we see that the two individuals mark territory regularly, it indicates that they will stay.

How do they do when they mark territory?

- They do just like dogs.

They lift the leg, both the bitch and the male.

They pee and scratch, says David Börjesson.

It is still unclear how big the wolf couple's territory on Linderödsåsen is.

It is difficult to see the extent of the area without track snow.

The County Administrative Board may rely on game cameras and wolf droppings in the area.

A lone wandering wolf

There may also be another wolf in Skåne, a so-called migratory wolf.

It also comes from the same area in Östergötland as the bitch on Linderödsåsen.

- It is a male wolf that has been expelled from its herd, which they become when they become sexually mature.

Then they walk a long way and look for a partner and a new territory, says David Börjesson, nature conservation officer at the County Administrative Board in Skåne.

Hiking wolves can move as far as eighty miles in a day.

They like to walk along roads and often meet both people and animals.

Wolves in a territory stay mostly in the terrain and are therefore often not as visible.
