Thirteen vehicles were set on fire and at least six people arrested Friday evening in Rillieux-la-Pape, in the Lyon suburbs, the day after urban violence in the sensitive district of La Duchère in Lyon, we learned from concordant sources.

"The situation is under control but I am very angry (...) Some are using what happened yesterday in La Duchère to give free rein to their violence," lamented the mayor LR to AFP. de Rillieux-la-Pape, Alexandre Vincendet.

About "thirty" individuals involved

According to the latter, the facts began around 7.15 pm in the Alagniers district when "thirty" individuals advanced "in very compact groups, very mobile, by setting fire to the cars in their path and by stoning the buses".

Very quickly, firefighters and police, in particular those of the Departmental Intervention Companies (CDI), arrived on the scene, where the first arrests took place "thanks in particular to video surveillance", he added.

Thirteen vehicles were set on fire and at least six people arrested, according to the prefecture.

Second evening of tension

This violence occurs the day after clashes that affected the district of La Duchère, in the 9th arrondissement of Lyon, after the accident Wednesday in this same district of a 13-year-old on a scooter.

Pointed out by residents, the police deny being involved in the accident.

Six vehicles were burned during the clashes and three suspects, including two minors, must be brought to justice on Saturday, according to the prosecution.

In October, in Rillieux-la-Pape, hooded individuals tried to burn down a church and threw stones and pétanque balls at firefighters.

The Minister of the Interior, Gérald Darmanin, went the next day on the spot to condemn the facts and then announced, on January 27, the establishment of two new districts of "republican reconquest" (QRR), including Rillieux- the Pope, with the imminent arrival of police reinforcements.
