Les Sables-d'Olonne (dpa) - A good 36 days after Boris Herrmann from Hamburg, the last participant has finished the 9th Vendée Globe.

The Finn Ari Huusela crossed the finish line of the solo circumnavigation off Les Sables-d'Olonne in France after 116 days, 18 hours, 15 minutes and 46 seconds early on Friday morning.

Frenchman Yannick Bestaven won the marine marathon, while Herrmann just missed a German participant's first podium finish shortly before the finish line after colliding with a fishing trawler.

He finished fifth with the “Seaexplorer - Yacht Club de Monaco”.

The 39-year-old is already working on taking part in the tenth edition of the world's most important one-handed regatta in 2024/25.
