Cologne (dpa) - In response to the outbreak of the equine herpes virus in Valencia, the umbrella organization Deutscher Galopp has introduced a mandatory vaccination against this virus for all horses.

Horses not vaccinated against the herpes virus are no longer allowed to participate in the races.

The association announced this on Friday.

There are currently no cases of infection among thoroughbred racing horses worldwide.

In addition, the majority of racehorses and thoroughbred horses in Germany have already been vaccinated, which has been an obligation for breeding farms for years.

This vaccination requirement has now been extended.

A suspension of the races in Germany is not necessary, so the Sunday race day will take place in Dortmund, horses that have not been vaccinated will not start.
