Würzburg (AP) - 1. FC Heidenheim celebrated an away win at the Würzburg Kickers and is getting closer and closer to the top of the 2nd Bundesliga.

The 2: 1 (0: 0) on Friday evening brought the team of coach Frank Schmidt, at least overnight, up to four points in the promotion zone.

Denis Thomalla (47th minute) and an own goal by Würzburg's Christian Stohdiek (64th) decided the game in favor of the superior guests.

The connection goal by David Kopacz (67th) was not enough for the Kickers.

Head coach Bernhard Trares' team is six points behind the relegation place in the last place in the table;

the chance of a rescue was again smaller on the 24th matchday.

Heidenheim was the clearly superior team in a mediocre game with only a few scoring chances and could have taken the lead in the first half.

Christian Kühlwetter failed once on the crossbar (14th) and once against goalkeeper Hendrik Bonmann (30th).

After the break, Thomalla headed a corner to take the lead, shortly afterwards Strohdiek steered a shot from Heidenheim's Tobias Mohr into his own goal.

Kopacz shortened with a volley.

In the final phase, however, the guests confidently defended their victory.
