Torun (AP) - Shot putter Christina Schwanitz won the first medal for the German team at the European Indoor Championships for athletes in Torun, Poland.

The 35-year-old ex-world champion from LV 90 Erzgebirge took bronze with 19.04 meters.

For the indoor European champion from 2013, who came second in 2011 and 2019, it is the fourth European Championship medal under the roof.

The new European champion was the Portuguese Auriol Dongmo, who pushed 19.34 meters.

Fanny Roos from Sweden secured silver with 19.29 meters.

Sarah Gambetta from Halle was sixth with 18.34 meters.

Katharina Maisch (LV 90 Erzgebirge) was already eliminated in the qualification.
