Kiel (dpa / lno) - According to the Kiel Ministry of Agriculture, the Friedrich Loeffler Institute (FLI) has for the first time detected avian influenza of the subtype H5N8 in two small animal holdings in the Stormarn and Rendsburg-Eckernförde districts.

In the Stormarn district it is a question of keeping 150 animals of various types of chickens, turkeys and waterfowl, and in the Rendsburg-Eckernförde district of keeping around 25 chickens, ducks and geese, the ministry announced on Friday.

In both cases, a restricted area of ​​at least three and an observation area of ​​at least ten kilometers were arranged.

In Schleswig-Holstein, avian influenza has thus been detected in eight poultry holdings with a total of around 5175 animals.

In addition, the FLI found avian influenza in several districts in 24 wild birds, bringing the total number of all cases to more than 90.

Five different subtypes of avian influenza have now been detected in wild birds in Schleswig-Holstein.

In more than 30 cases, the confirmation of avian influenza by the FLI is still pending.
